Turtle Non Ninja Version by 33M Turtle Non Ninja Version by 33M
This African Horned Tortoise is still a very young man.
He is only 15 and will hopefully live another hundred of
years. I told him I would be back as long as I could
to mark his progress and maybe even a family as time
goes on.

Most turtles that spend most of their lives on land
have their eyes looking down at objects in front
of them. Some aquatic turtles, such as snapping
turtles and soft-shelled turtles, have eyes closer
to the top of the head. These species of turtles
can hide from predators in shallow water, where
they lie entirely submerged except for their eyes
and nostrils.

Sea turtles possess glands near their eyes that produce
salty tears that rid their body of excess salt taken
in from the water they drink.

I really love the inherent design and decorative effects of this young man. And what a great portrait, too

Amazing. He has such a wise air about him, as I think most tortoises do. ;) Wonderful shot! I hope you do go back and see what becomes of him.

I love zoos because of the amount of flavor that you are exposed to with
all the animals and kids, but I hate the bars, the dirty cages, the sadness
that is always prevailing even through squawking or skreeting....Some zoos do
the best for the animals, some do the best for the zoos bottom line, and I always
apologize to the animals for having to be on display instead of being able to have fun
and play.....

Thank you so much

I have to agree. Sometimes you see an exhibit that makes you almost not mind, but most of the times the cages are small and dark and lonely - nothing like in the wild. I enjoy zoos, but I enjoy animals in their natural habitats so much more.

I just love animals, but there is an excitement in both free and caged animals
that is hard to deny. In the wild, will the animal run away, or hide or give me
a rear end view and in the zoo will he interact with me so I may see his eyes
and observe his behavior when I stand in front of him or her.

Plus I love penguins and have to go to the zoo to see them....So far.....LOL

:giggle: Very true. Penguins are adorable.

Right now are zoo is being extensively remodeled. Maybe I'll be more enthused about it after the renovations are complete. ;)

Ha ha, I think the vegetables were actually caught in his little teeth,
but I did think for a minute about trying to slide it out of his mouth,
his sharp little mouth.......I like the natural look better and very
rarely remove items from an animal unless they are my wallet or purse in
their mouths.......

Thank you so much

I really love the animals and most of them really like me,
in that I am very lucky. I have a huge wasp nest on the other
side of my cabin and yesterday i asked them to please move so
I don't have to destroy their house....No reply yet, but I saw
a few middle fingers(stingers) being thrown my way......LOL

Thank you so much

I have never had any luck discussing anything with a cloud of wasps! They seem to love our house though. One really black one got me a few years back, and I had to go to the doctor for a shot.

I also found one nest in the good jamb of my car. They must like to ride around the neighborhood!

I recommend a can of wasp spray ... the kind that lets you be 20 feet away from the nest. :)

Did you get the turtle his napkin after the shoot? :?

You are always welcome, M! :D

Living in the woods the wasps have supreme reign over my 5 foot 3 inch tall frame...
Its worse if you run into a nest as you are walking in the woods and it hits you
in the forehead......LOL

We are already heading into 35 degrees at night and pretty soon they will be
dormant when I wake up at 4 or 5 am and then I will peel the nest off the
frame of the house or shed and put it in a plastic bag to be photographed later. ( like when the snow
flies......LOLOL)

I love turtles, yes, even the ninja versions,
and after relaxing with him for a while, he
started to come out of his shell with full face
wonderment....He was probably trying to figure out
just what the heck I was and why I was in his little
area

Thank you so much

When I was a child, I asked my papa about the war.
He never talked about the horrors or what he did.
I think the turtles are the same way.

Thank you so much
